Trapped in an alternate world populated by suicide victims, a band of souls tries to find an escape route in Goran Dukic's quirky fantasy. Although he took his own life, Zia (Patrick Fugit) isn't ready for such a grim hereafter, particularly when he learns that his ex-girlfriend also killed herself. On a quest to find her, he befriends a jaded hitchhiker and a Russian rocker, and together, they set out in search of a more appealing afterlife.

Cute movie with a great concept. The main characters were quirky and for the most part entertaining. The ending, however, was rather predictable and too Hollywood for an independent film.

This story of a young man searching for the dream girl he lost would not be new, except that in this case it takes place in a surreal afterlife. Add to that the russian musician buddy, the pretty girl hitchhiker, Tom Waits as an angel, and the Gogol Bordello sound track and you got a cool movie like no other.

A quirky black and gothic comedy, Wristcutters endears with dry humor, a clever story and great acting. The chemistry between the leads is fantastic and Sossamon is particularly good; this is perhaps her best role. Even the cameos are good. If anything, the "weird" is over done at times and the purgatorial subject itself is a bit trivialized but I'm not complaining. I really liked this one and think those looking for something different or have a taste for gothic humor will too; 3.5 stars.
