Spanning two decades, Yash Chopra's epic love story of an Indian man and a Pakistani woman delves into the conflict between the two countries. After aiding Zaara (Priety Zinta), Indian Airman Veer (Shah Rukh Khan) falls in love with her. They spend a blissful day together, and even though Zaara's engaged to another man, Veer tells her he loves her. Zaara returns to Pakistan, but Veer can't forget his true love and boldly travels to her homeland.
I have such a long queue that I can't remember what made me put this on my list. It sat & sat & sat waiting for me to get up the interest to plug in a 3 hour movie. I almost put it right back in the envelope when I watched the incredibly, unbearably cheesy opening credits. But I held on a bit longer & it was worth it. If you like weepy romances interspersed with nutty musical numbers, this is for you.

I've seen several Bollywood movies featuring Shahrukh Khan... and this one is by far my favorite. His performances are often too goofball for me, but in Veer-Zaara, his restrained performance really (finallY!) gave me an understanding of why he is a star. Like most Bollywood films, this is a story of star-crossed lovers. I didn't enjoy the songs as much as I usually do (with the exception of the terrific Lodi number.) The seriousness of the tale takes a little way from the usual fun of Indian movies.
