When I first watched season 2 I was disappointed, I thought the show had taken a step backwards. Now that I have gone back and watched this again, I realize that this season is just as great as the others. The only reason it felt like less is because I was so attached to the characters from season 1 and many of them have to take a back seat to make room for the new characters from the docks. This is actually the saddest and most poignant of the 5 seasons. While the outcome is inevitable, the journey is heartbreaking. Give this a shot and I defy you to not be affected. Highly recommended.

Better than season one, The Wire season two does a great job of character development. The learning curve is significantly less than season one as the large cast of characters will now be mostly familiar to the viewer. Plot wise, there are new but just as outstanding story lines here as in season one. Plus there is some continuation of season one plot threads which is a nice plus for returning viewers. Overall, a great job for a nicely maturing show.
