While seeking revenge for her little brother's murder, Japanese schoolgirl Ami (Minase Yashiro) loses an arm to yakuza villains. Her plight prompts a pair of friendly mechanics to furnish our heroine with a butt-kicking machine-gun prosthesis. As the determined Ami sacrifices more limbs, she receives stronger and deadlier upgrades in this outrageous gore-filled slasher from director Noboru Iguchi.
I really don't like slasher movies and I'm a little queasy when it comes to blood and guts, but despite the blood spewing like hydro jets nearly every other scene, this movie put a smile on my face. It's got plenty of cheesy dialog, a corny plot, and way-over-the-top "special" effects. I mean, what's there not to love about sushi fingers, tempura arm, and a drill bra?!?!?!? Add some ninjas, the yakuza, and a pissed off chick in a short skirt with a machine gun instead of an arm and you've got all kinds of fun. My only disappointment comes from being mislead by the movie description: "As the determined Ami sacrifices more limbs, she receives stronger and deadlier upgrades" just isn't true, as far as I remember. Yes, there are plenty of lost limbs, but not hers. She only loses her one arm (and even briefly regains it in one scene). I was really hoping for a more cybertronic kind of transformation...but I still loved this movie.

Over-the-top insane. I don't think I've seen this much blood come out of someone's neck in a film ever. It was as if each person was pumped so full of air, when their heads were removed the air finally had a chance to escape bringing all the blood fro the neck to their toes out of the bloody stump. It was a fun movie, totally ridiculous and bloody, reminded me of Evil Dead, but with a drill bra.

Quite an entertaining little B-movie. Although some compare the main device to Planet Terror, I'd say it's more Army of Darkness. Visually, the film seems like an extended homage to Raimi, using a lot of his "camera attached to a flying weapon" shots, and even the bit where Ash thrusts his stump into the air, perfectly catching his chainsaw. Some of the gore is fantastically creative, reminding me of other low budget efforts like Dead Alive. The plot is of course ridiculous, serving only to carry us from one scene of mayhem to the next. There are a few points where it lags slightly, but for the most part the film is brimming with zany energy and is immensely entertaining.

This is a tongue in cheek over the top gorefest. Not as bad as I expected or as good as I had hoped for. I watched it with the excellent English dubbing but you can watch it in Japanese with subtitles if you prefer. I'm not a real big gorehound and the neck and stump geysers were kind of annoying to me, but the dialogue and great stylized overacting made up for it. There were some really hilarious scenes, especially the drill bra. You will have to watch it to see what I mean. If you like outrageous, campy, bloody, comedy check this out. If not then don't bother. Viewer discretion advised!

Wow. This was sufficiently insane. The Machine Girl appears to be an homage to American horror films of late, believe it or not. While it is safe to say that this one will never be remade for American audiences, the creators certainly learned a thing or two from Saw, Grindhouse (The director simply claims that Robert Rodriguez has the same influences as him), and even Mortal Kombat (Scorpion makes a hilarious appearance, he's even got the chained arm deal!). I'd call this an gore-exploitation film, because that's basically all it is. It seems that the director simply wanted to connect scenes only by outdoing his last hilarious kill. While I had a smile on my face the entire time, part of the time I was very disappointed in the low-budget and amateurish filmmaking. It's weird that they used CG only 10% of the time, when it's obvious they could have just made one more mold of a body to cut up. When they use the CG here, it looks absolutely terrible, it should have been avoided. Some scenes look entirely too much like Mighty Morphin Power Rangers episodes. Last thing to mention is that the dialogue is awful, you can't really make an excuse for how poorly written it is. I can see this movie being a cult hit in America, due to it's over-the-top violence, but it's certainly not going to win any awards.

1 part Kill Bill + 1 part Evil Dead + 2 parts Ricky-Oh = The Machine Girl. Whoever had the foresight to combine ninjas, the yakuza, japanese school girls, machine gun appendages, and a drill bra deserves an Oscar, or maybe a Nobel prize. Every frame of this cinematic masterpiece is pure greatness. Sure some of the performances are not great and the effects look ridiculous, but that just adds to the charm. This is easily the most fun movie that I have seen in a long time. If you are a fan of Ricky-Oh, you will love this. If you've never seen Ricky-Oh, then you now have two movies to add to your queue.

Noboru Iguchi's "The Machine Girl" is black humor on the back of a completely over the top parody of every J-Horror, Asian slasher, martial arts, Ninja, sword, chainsaw, gattling gun revenge gore fest ever to come out of the far East! It pulls out every cliché it can find then throws them into a rapid-fire scenario that gets so ridiculous that youve got to love it. For me, this was analogous to a Mel Brooks comedy where he throws so many bad jokes and one liners at you that you get worn down. Eventually you just have to laugh. Well, parody may not be comedy but the effect is the same. The Machine Girl is another of those movies thats so bad its good. I had a few laugh out loud moments but not nearly as many as I had groans. Within the confines of the genre, The Machine Girl is well made and the acting is well about the norm. And the movie must have had a good budget. I wonder how much a tanker truck of fake blood costs and how many they ended up using? If youre into J-Gore then do this one just for the fun of it! I hope my thoughts are helpful 06/21/08 ~~~Wingz

Over-the-top, goofy, fun Japanese gorefest. Machine gun arms, chainsaws, ninja yakuza (or is it "yakuza ninjas"), drill bras, and flying guillotines all add up to a blood-fountain of fun.

I watched The Machine Girl the other night. I was looking forward to watching this movie because the trailer looked promising, and in many ways it did not disappoint. The positive points are the non-stop gore, the grindhouse feel, and the actress who played the main character did a pretty good job acting. If I was let down a little, it was in the storyline, backstory of how the heroine got her machine gun arm, and a little cheesiness in some of the fight scenes. I felt obligated to rate this 4 stars instead of 3 stars because I think it's worth the watch for those into this kind of movie. However, probably somewhere in the middle, like a 3.4.

Nikkatsu Studios has a long and storied history of bringing violence, torture and gallons of gushing blood to the big screen. It's nice to see that the tradition lives on with The Machine Girl. Not for the timid, this film is all about chainsaw campiness and decapitated limbs. With its flashy cinematography, some not so subtle special effects and a fairly standard, killing for vengeance plot, it fits nicely alongside any of the goriest horror flicks. The Machine Girl isn't about terror. It's more of an homage to the best of gore and over the top splatter is what it delivers to the highest degree. If you like your gore with a side of camp, The Machine Girl is a fun little ride.

Oh man what can I say....Two words "Drill Bra". This movie is a over-the-top blood fest. It is the female version of Bruce Campbell in the Evil Dead series. Add in Dead Alive and this is what you get. I would say there is some dull moments, but once it picks back up it makes up for it. A must see for any horror/comedy fan.

About halfway through The Machine Girl the ridiculous bar had been set so high that I cut it off. There were just too many Get-the-@#$%-out-of here-moments to enjoy it anymore. But I went back to it a day later. I just had to know how far, director, Noboru Iguchi was willing to take this Japanese School Girl revenge flick. Ami?s brother is murdered by the bullying son of a Yakuza/Hatori Honzo Ninja (yep). Inexplicably, she (before earning a machine gun and a chainsaw to replace her stub) goes on a murderous rampage to avenge his death. She deals out death to henchmen, schoolyard bullies, mothers, fathers, and ninjas and in between (in a fascinating moment) screaming "I'm the devil! I've turned into the devil!?" It's somewhere around there that I stopped and re-started watching Machine Girl, initially thinking that my level of desensitization had been achieved. That's when the "drill bra" was revealed. And I have to say, shortly thereafter, I literally saw something I had never seen before. I don't know if I was outright entertained by it or not. So I can only take solace in the fact that I took away 3 things from this movie: a) It dispels the stereotype/myth that all Asians know kung fu. Because there is some pretty shoddy martial arts throughout. b) It's not weird because it's Japanese. It's weird because it's gleefully retarded. c) Drill Bra. Enjoy.

I'm somewhat ashamed to admit that I thoroughly enjoyed this film from start to finish. It's a very low budget, low tech affair featuring gallons upon gallons of fake blood as well as loads of snappy dialog such as, "In a matter of minutes you'll be dead. Then you won't be able to hold a grudge against me." That's brilliant writing there. If you're able to go into this expecting camp and overly fake violence, you'll probably really appreciate it. If you go in thinking this is a typical movie, you'll hate it.
