Speed co-stars Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves reteam for romance in director Alejandro Agresti's remake of the Korean film Siworae, exploring a mysterious mailbox that somehow bridges time. After moving away from her peaceful lakeside home, a lonely physician (Bullock) begins writing letters to the frustrated architect (Reeves) who now occupies the building, only to discover that they're living two years apart.
Those who go to "The Lake House" expecting a science fiction movie because of the shifting time dimension feature of the movie may not be satisfied. But, for those who like and appreciate light, romantic movies with a large dose of fantasy, the movie is very good. Keanu Reeves successfully displays his acting ability outside of the action genre and the chemistry with Sandra Bullock seems genuine and shows in their performances. The photography is very good; the script moves fast and will hold your attention. The shifting time dimension is a nice twist on a romantic plot. In short, it is a great way to spend time enjoying a movie with produced by talented performers and cinematographers.

Okay ladies! This is a movie to put on when your having ladies night at the house. This is a great movie!! I love uniqueness of it the pure ROMANCE of it. Granted I have never seen Reeves in a romance before so one it was a little odd but to be fair he wasn't awful...I just think he needs to go back to what he does best Sci-Fi. Bullock of course is her great can't help but love self. She reminds me so much of a "normal" down to earth person and you can even see that in the roles she plays. I will see any movie with her in it. The story line I believe was very strong and very concrete. I liked the consistency, which I believe would be a little bit of a challenge for a movie about "time". I think this would be a great movie to share with your teen daughter, for her first romance film, since its clean and its very very endearing. Go get this one ladies, men I don't think any of you will WANT to see this movie...unless your a romantic that is...in which case..can I have your number? Just kidding!

I expected to hate this movie about a couple of lovers seperated by time, only able to communicate through letters left in a magical mailbox. But I was intrigued by the sci-fi/time travel premise, and I like seeing Chicago on screeen, so rented it. While I still don't think these stars have much acting range, nor do I feel any chemistry between them (though others seem to), I must admit I was drawn into the story. It's rather confusing as the actors converse across time, and I'm sure there's debate about the fact that they are able to change the future through their actions. It's easy to find things to hate about this movie, but if you want a classic love story, this is one with a new spin.

I am not sure where to start with this one. I was very excited to see this film despite it's mixed reviews since it was the first time to see Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves together since Speed. The premise was wonderful, 2 people who fall in love but are unable to be together because they are living in different times. What a great way to incorporate Sci-Fi into a romance. The jumping around between the 2 different times was okay until things started to happen that made me literally pause the movie and exclaim, "If this happened in this time, then this other thing couldn't have happened in the other time". I did this so many times during the movie I lost count. It got to the point where I was rolling my eyes, knowing that the scene they just showed would have made the next scene impossible. It lost it's credibility and I hate when movies do that. Other things went unexplained, and just caused me more irritation than I like during a film. There was also the dynamic between the two actors here. Sandra and Keanu have worked together before so I expected them to be able to fake chemistry a little better, but they seemed flat. Almost as if the performance was capable of being a 10 but stopped at an even 7. Several times a certain scene should have had more emotion but it didn't. There were a few heartwarming scenes that brought tears to my eye, but that was early on. Later, when I should have been crying at certain scenes, I just felt unsympathetic and uncaring.

I've never been impressed by Keanu Reeves as a dramatic actor. He's always entertaining in the action and sci fi genres, but A Walk in the Clouds and Sweet November were both pretty terrible. Keanu make quite a departure with The Lake House, and I was actually impressed. As for the movie itself, The Lake House is a good movie if you want it to be a good movie. If you sit in the theater and over think it, then you will not have a good time, and you may well be miserable. But there is no denying that Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock have explosive screen chemistry. They don't even have to share the same frame or the same moment in time to sizzle. Plus, the house and its surrounds are beautiful, and there is a scene involving a walking tour of Chicago that makes one genuinely fall in love with the city's architecture. This is definitely a beautifully shot movie. As for the script, if you keep in mind that this is fantasy, not science fiction, there is something to appreciate here. Yes, there are some pretty glaring faults in logic, but if you can let them go and enjoy the show, you will be entertained. Oh, and it helps if you are a woman because this is definitely a chick flick. But as chick flicks go, it's not bad.

I've always enjoyed the chemistry between Reeves and Bullock. But good chemistry can only go so far when it's immersed in an ill-paced, factually flimsy and occasionally boring love story. The time travel aspects do add some curiosity but the sappy aspects are likely to leave the non-romance lovers among you luke warm at best; 2.5 stars.

Surprise! Keanu Reeves can act a little bit--his old Speed cast-mate Sandra Bullock seems to bring the best out of him. There is one scene in particular where Reeves breaks down after the death of his father, played adroitly by Christopher Plummer, where Reeves protrays the most valid emotion that I have ever witnessed in watching his career. This film is a complete romantic fantasy with lots of holes in its logic, but is so very enertaining and beautiful that you really don't mind. You really do care about these two characters and wish that somehow they can meet up even though they are several years apart in time. I admit that I am a sucker for these kinds of time travel fantasies, but the good thing about The Lake House is that they never try to explain how these two people can communicate over time with lame supernatural or scientific double-talk. It's just mysterious like life and well...like love! A great date movie to see cuddled up with your significant other. Bullock and Reeves do not disappoint!

Not only is the premise preposterous but, it's not even original. For some reason, Hollywood threw lots of dollars at this retarded remake. A monkey with a hand-held camera could have made a more engaging movie. And, to top it off, it stars Keanu Reeves. His only decent films are the ones where he is supposed to be clueless rather than the rest when that just happens naturally. I'm beginning to think that Hollywood is perpetuating a sick joke to see just how stupid they can make a movie and still have people watch it. I wonder what the South Koreans thought when we hurled this ridiculous version of their movie back at them.
