Stuck in a vicious cycle of dead-end relationships with two-timing men, Los Angeles resident Amanda (Cameron Diaz) and Londoner Iris (Kate Winslet) decide to swap homes -- paving the way for romances they never imagined possible. This charming comedy from writer-director Nancy Meyers features an all-star cast, including Jude Law, Jack Black, Edward Burns and Rufus Sewell.
Trite trash. Watching Diaz mince up a snowy English lane in high heels, giggling and clapping her mitts over a series of at least five shots has to be a new low for irritating schmaltz.

Cute movie but long...incredibly long. For a movie about people who are book and film editors and writers, etc., it really suffered from some bad editing. Would've been much better if it were, oh, about 30 minutes shorter. Otherwise it was cute. Some good moments. Good date movie; can kiss and cuddle during the boring parts.

I enjoyed this movie inspite of itself. By that I mean Diaz is way over acting in this film. I must agree with one of the other reviewers in that Winslet and Wallach were outstanding together. Jack Black was fine, but not too believable as a love interest for Winslet. The story was entertaining and the acting was good. It's a good "chick" flick and worth a watch.

This was a typical and fairly predictable romantic comedy with Kate Winslet and Jack Black being a bit miscast, in my opinion. Jude Law was wonderful, as usual, and Cameron Diaz always seems to play the same type of character as she did in this one as well. The plot was syrupy and the premise unlikely, but it was mindless entertainment for a couple of hours.

I found this movie thoroughly enjoyable!! The Holiday centers around two women whose lives are falling apart. They find each other online and decide to switch houses, thinking that the change in scenery will give them the break they so desperately need. I had a difficult time connecting with the character played by Cameron Diaz, but the rest of the cast was just incredible and more than made up for this. Jack Black especially surprised me. I was impressed with his sensitive approach and wonder if maybe we caught a glimpse of the "real" Jack. This is a good, warm, cuddle-up-on-the-couch movie that you don't want to miss!

Two very different female characters (played by Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet), in two different countries, for two different (though slightly similar) reasons, exchange homes for a two week vacation. The story that unfolds is both intriguing and exciting. Both of these heart-broken women have very different personalities and must get-away from their current situations at home. Jude Law who is always exceptional, proves yet again, that he can in fact act. I loved his character here, and thought he and Cameron were completely believable as Amanda and Graham. Kate Winslet who plays Iris was actually pretty good (I typically am not a fan of hers) and Jack Black never once fell into his typical ridiculous comedian role, he actually acted pretty well, I was very surprised. While parts of the story were your typical romantic comedy type fare, I felt the story and acting were both smart and never really became the generic cookie cutter romance. Each character had his/her own story and quirks, and there were even a few surprises which I found to be heartfelt and touching. I definitely recommend this film to anyone who enjoys the romance/drama/comedy genre. While it may feel just as good as most others, I think many will be surprised at how it manages to stand apart.

ireviewnetflix.com rating: **** From the cast to the story, this is a great film all around. Kate Winset and Jude Law are wonderful as always, Cameron Diaz, not one of the favorite actresses, is tolerable, and Jack Black wasnt as detestable as I normally find him to be.
