Set in southeast Arkansas, this cautionary indie tale from director Jeff Nichols tracks a blood feud that erupts when two sets of half-brothers come to blows at their father's funeral. The first-born siblings dubbed Boy, Son and Kid -- impersonal monikers that embody their father's indifference toward them -- explode in anger upon meeting their counterparts, who have real names and reaped the rewards of their father's later success.

I'm sorry, but I usually like Indie dramas, but this was way too slow and boring. There is very little action ( 3 scenes, incredibly bad), so don't think you're going to see anything that will save this film. The story starts with 2 sets of redneck families fighting each other over the death of a dead-beat dad/step dad. The brothers start going after each other and that's where the story really loses my interest. They're so ignorant and bland that they can't even do that right. The paint drying pace will then set in and you will begin to wonder if there will ever be any real action or revenge leveled against either side. The answer is NO. Don't let the title "Shotgun Stories" fool you because you won't see it, unless you count pointing a shotgun at someone as being a story, if so, your set. This movie was a complete waste of time for me.

Passable indie drama. Low budget and low key but well acted. It held my interest, but unlike the name implies it has very little on screen violence and no action to speak of. If you are not into independent flicks in particular there is not much to recommend here. However if you are into obscure indies you will probably find it worth your while. Some people will love it just for not being your typical Hollywood fare. Pretty good, but not great. You be the judge if you care to give it a try.
