Donna (Brittany Snow) has been looking forward to her senior prom for as long as she can remember, anticipating a night of magic surrounded by her best friends. But what she doesn't bargain for is a visitor from her dark past and a party that will end in murder. Donna and her friends find themselves fighting to escape the clutches of a deranged killer before the night of their dreams turns into their worst nightmare.
Donna and her friends are finally at their anxiously awaited Senior Prom. Unfortunately on the same night a teacher previously obsessed with Donna, and serving time in prison, escapes. Determined to live out his obsession, he will make the prom a night to remember for everyone. Sadly, the plot of this movie is a thin veil for a run of the mill slasher flick and is barely even needed. Schaech and Elba were two of the most experienced actors in the film and it showed. Both of them delivered very good performances while the rest of the cast left something to be desired. I actually had a hard time feeling bad as people were killed and was almost cheering as the shrill screaming whiney teens were eliminated. This film truly came across as aimed at the PG-13 crowd and lacked the depth needed for an adult audience in many ways. Camera work was okay although some of the flash shots were too quick and got repetitive. Special effects werent very interesting, nor was sound. Dialogue was Jr. High School at best and again, lacked any depth. I would say teens and above should be fine with this one. I dont recall any nudity although there was some language, violence and blood. Adults can skip this one, teens will probably enjoy it.

I thought this movie was full of tension and very little on gory factor. The acting was better than your typical teen slasher and that with tension made for a very entertaining movie. Jonathan Schaech portrayed a very convincing serial killer... much better in this role than in the movie Organism. Young high school girl sees her mom killed right before her eyes by a staking former school teacher who is obcessed with her. He is captured and later escapes to come after her on her porm night. Many die, and the chase is on to capture him before he can reach his intened victim. Entertaining and worth a watch in my book. 3.5 stars.

I knew beforehand that even though it is Unrated, it is PG-13 in actuality (Original Theatrical release). It bothers me that they willingly stamp Unrated on a movie just because it is released for home viewing... I hope no one continues to fall for that gimmick. Being PG-13 didn't matter to me at all, because I do not judge horror movies based on an MPAA rating. I judge the horror genre on creativity, acting, story and of course - the scare factor. Unfortunately, this movie faltered in some key areas. I found that even "Unrating" this movie did not add much. There is some pretty violent stabbing going on in Prom Night (I think every death is by knife), but was it scary? Not at all. Not when you know the bad guy's face from the very beginning of the movie, and always know he's the one standing behind the good guys (And in every medicine cabinet mirror available). As far as originality, the movie is nothing you haven't seen before - it's a pure slasher film where you don't really know why the guy is killing anyone when it's made so obvious that he just wants one girl. That leaves us with the acting. In horror movies, there isn't much acting to be done... mostly just run, scream and cry. So, in that respect, I suppose the cast was good at doing that. I think Johnathon Schaech is good at being the bad guy (Also liked him in Organizm), and even though this killer has a face (Unlike in many slasher films where the killer is masked for most of the movie), at least he's good at what he does for a living! The writer of Prom Night on the other hand...

This is the bottom of the barrel when it comes to these generic horror remakes. The characters are boring, the killer is totally uninteresting, and the tension is nonexistent. Every horror stereotype is represented here, and it brings absolutely nothing new to the genre. Even the great Idris Elba couldn't save this. This movie is representative of everything that is wrong with Hollywood. Avoid at all costs.

Remarkably tame, Prom Night is strictly a by-the-numbers slasher light on both plot and surprises. Reasonably high production values do provide the film a quality look and the acting is good enough; lead Brittany Snow (Hairspray) was convincing. But Prom Night is more cash grab than quality horror as it's generally missing any real sense of style or suspense. And ultimately, it's just not that scary. That more than any other reason is why I feel the movie fails; 2.5 stars.

BAD BAD BAD movie! The acting is disgraceful and the script is even worse. The "killer" is just pain silly, and the killings are just so very cheesy and lame. The "scary" scenes were not even close to suspenseful and the actors just made the movie seem like it was written by a really bad writer. I ask this question over and over and this film makes me ask it once again...."Where have all the good scary movies gone?" I would recommend that you skip this film, because even if you have nothing else to watch...its better then watching this.
