Modern treasure hunters, led by archaeologist Ben Franklin Gates (Nicolas Cage), search for a treasure chest rumored to have been stashed away by George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin as funds for the Revolutionary War. The whereabouts of the chest may lie in a secret code embedded in the U.S. Constitution and in a map drawn on the back of the Declaration of Independence. Co-stars Diane Kruger, Sean Bean and Harvey Keitel.
This is the most absurt story line I have attempted to watch in a long time. Allthough I didn't make it half way through the movie before shutting it off, I can easily predict exactly what happened. Not only is it stupid and predictible, it is boring.

Through out the entire film I had this feeling of deja vu. It turns out that there was little difference between this movie and Dan Browns novels Angels and Demons and The Da Vinci code. The entire secret scoiety business leaving clue after clue to find the treasure. So I give 2 Stars.

Let's be straight here, it's a summer action movie. Check your brain and suspend your disbelief at the door. Don't pay a lot of attention on the details of the plot. This movie is meant for one single purpose: to entertain. It does. It's not great. But, the action was good, the characters had just enough to them to be likable (I didn't say believable) and the story reminds you of The Goonies. It was a fun ride without being stupid. What more could you ask for from a popcorn-flick?

This movie could have been so cool. I felt like this movie was trying to build to something that wasn't there. The chemistry between Ben and Abigail was strained at best. Riley gave a bit of comic relief, but other then that this movie was a yawner. I will give a nod to Sean Bean as the only decent acting job in this movie. As this movie is aimed to families with older children, there is really nothing inappropriate here. What a waste of time. I applaud Disney for having two family-oriented films in the theaters over Thanksgiving. But while the Incredibles was a movie I could recommend to anyone, National Treasure should be recommended to noone.

FOR PARENTS: I saw this movie years ago, and enjoyed it, but noted it was nothing special. This weekend I watched it again, but with my 8 year old son. BIG HIT. It is hard to find an action thriller that is moderately intelligent, not too violent or inappropriate (I mean, it's a PG!! Not even PG-13. This is hard to find.) I give this 5-stars for a parent/kid movie night. Lot's of fun, a little thrill, some light comedy, and best of all, a modicum of American History tossed in. PERFECT!

It's a good enough movie, but it's nothing I haven't seen before. It takes a bit here (any Indiana Jones flick), some from there (The Mummy), a little from there (Young Sherlock Holmes) and sprinkles on a little History Channel and DaVinci Code. The result is something that feels like a patchwork quilt that was sewn by a bunch of people who've done better work on their own. Nicholas Cage just isn't a very inspired action star, his goofy stare and loopy voice leave you wondering why he was even cast. And PLEASE pay close attention, he's actually recycling dialogure from "The Rock." At least in that one, he had Ed Harris and Sean Connery to fall back on...

This movie was more like one of those old videogames where you had to solve puzzles to get to the next level. It has a nice tint to it with the whole American history theme, and it is silly fun, but don't expect too much. One note - Diane Kruger is terribly miscast in this film, and her American accent slips up more times than I care to note. Besides she was hotter in Troy anyway.

This is a typical 'what you'd expect' Adventure movie from Disney. Nicolas Cage and Diane Kruger are great. If you put this film in a subcategory of 'Family Films' it ranks up with the great ones. In a larger pond It is not quite up there with Indiana Jones but it has that type of feel to it; a bit more family oriented. Nonetheless this is a well-made, very fun movie. The script is an interesting and unique idea. Even though it is a stretch away from believable, it is intelligent; and with a little imagination you quickly come to accept the premise and enjoy the movie. If you are looking for a life-changing movie this won't quite live up to that high of expectations. If you are looking for a very good Action/Adventure film that is suitable for the whole family, then check out National Treasure. Hope this is helpful.

I enjoyed the movie, although I felt that it began to drag, and I was watching the clock near the movies end. Once the movie was done, I watched the Extras on the dvd, there are a couple of good ones about real-life treasure hunters, but then I found the "Kiddie section" of the extras. Single-handedly, this section ruined the movie for me. The games are so childish and easy to play that you begin to realize that this is still a Disney movie. So, watch the movie, skip the extras, and you'll be good.

This is a wonderfully fun movie. It is the perfect example of a guilty pleasure. The plot is outrageous and the characters are paper thin, but once the action starts, it is impossible not to get caught up in it. This is one of those films that I watch every time I catch it on television. While I would never classify this as a great film, it is a great time and I can definitely recommend it.
