Benjamin Franklin Gates (Nicolas Cage) and Dr. Abigail Chase (Diane Kruger) -- who found riches and romance at the end of their first hunt for national treasure -- reteam with their wisecracking partner in crime, Riley Poole (Justin Bartha), for another romp through U.S. history. Now, armed with a stack of long-lost pages from John Wilkes Booth's diary, Ben is obsessed with finding the truth behind President Abraham Lincoln's assassination.
Just like with its predecessor, I was surprised I enjoyed this movie so much. It has a great blend of action, comedy, and mystery that kept my attention throughout the movie. Even better, the historical inaccuracies are kept to a minimum this time around. Dont get me wrong, you cant turn in a paper on this movie and hope to pass a history class, but the errors were not as glaring as in the first time though. I also enjoyed how the scope of the movie grew to factor in other parts of the globe instead of being a centralized American tale. And of course, they tease another sequel at the end. Highly recommended.

Blu-Ray feature of fact/fiction trivia was a very nice. I liked the ability to watch the movie again and learn which of the "historical facts" were purely fiction.

This movie continues with the action and the clues from the first movie. Very watchable and interesting movie.

I really liked the first National Treasure, but I was very disappointed with Book of Secrets. Of course the premiss is absurd, that's to be expected, but it's missing some things that made the first so enjoyable. There is no 'bad guy' here, which makes for a lackluster accomplishment at the end. Also, I don't believe the reasons for searching for the treasure in the first place (greed as in the first one was a legitimate excuse, but family restoration? come on). Most troublesome to me were the lack of and low quality of Riley's one liners throughout the film, his humorous comments made the first but here they are not enjoyable. The other things that I felt was missing was the intertwining of factual information to reveal the secrets; in hindsight I can only recall two bits of information that were used (statue of liberties, twin desks), everything else was just here-say.

When Mitch produces evidence indicating maybe an ancestor in the Gates family actually assisted John Booth with the assignation of President Lincoln rather than trying to prevent it as previously though, Ben Gates (and troupe) set out to find the truth. By chasing down the mystery behind the 18 pages missing from Booths diary, they find much more than the truth. This movie was almost non-stop action from the moment it started and glued me to my seat. The twists and turns were great, and the possibilities suggested are fascinating at times if not a bit thin on the reality meter. The only downside, throughout the movie I kept thinking Indiana Jones on crack and toward the end, Where is Angelina Jolie, this looks like Tomb Raider. I still enjoyed the film, it just started feeling much less original toward the end. Cage and Bartha both did a fine job, as did Kruger and Harris. Voight and Mirren however, were great. I loved seeing Voight with a bit of humor and a soft side to Mirren. Sets were incredible throughout the film. Sound was good but there were a couple of times the dialogue provided so much information so quickly I had to rewind to make sure I caught it all, and the music got a bit loud at times as well. The PG rating is solid. I dont recall any nudity or foul language, so the kiddies should be okay with this one although their history teacher may have to debrief them afterwards.

Clean, wholesome fun for the whole family. This one was very much like the first one with the bad guy being less bad and more actually helpful. It means less threats and less violence but still had plenty of action and of course the puzzles to solve. Add in a meeting with the president and more puzzles and it's just a fun ride, no need to over-analyze, just enjoy. 6/08

Like the first movie this one suffers from being interminably slow to start. It wasn't even a half hour into the movie and I was already looking at the clock wondering when things were going to get off the ground. Once things did get going, however, they became fairly entertaining. There are several places where you really need to just throw your view of reality out the window to be comfortable watching, however. Not only do the heroes easily break into Buckingham Palace but they effectively do the same thing to the White House as well... After the movie was over I couldn't help but think that the whole thing would've been a lot easier--not to mention a lot shorter with less annoying parts--if the bad guy had just asked for help finding the treasure instead of creating such a complex plan involving violence and guns and a ridiculous car chase through central London.

If you liked the first "National Treasure" movie, this one will please you as well. The action is constant and moves along quickly; the script is similar to the first movie as the characters search for clues with historical significance. In this case, the primary reason for the search is to clear the name of an ancestor from the civil war era. The movie is fun and easy to watch. It is hard to take the movie too seriously as the scenarios are outlandish and fanciful. Nicholas Cage has a good time with the script and does a professional job but doesn't seem to be taking the whole thing too seriously either. Fun to watch, lots of action, and elaborate sets, make this a movie worth seeing for the pure entertainment value.

What a great thrill ride of a movie. While there are parts to this movie that are farfetched, it entertains from start to finish. Nicolas Cage has this type of role down to a tee and the chemistry between all cast members is a pleasure to watch. Very much like the first NT with the added incentive of clearing an ancestor's tarnished name, doing whatever it takes to find the treasure and bring the Gates family name it's honor. This history ride is so entertaining that you never even notice it's a little over two hours long. The door is open for a third one and I for one can hardly wait! This movie is WELL worth the watch!

A low rating for this second movie in the National Treasure series may seem harsh, but it is completely necessary. I liked the first... it was over-the-top, but fun all the same. In this movie, the writers and directors tried to make something of substance out of nothing. Just because you can pick random historical facts out of a book, doesn't mean you should script a movie on that! Worse yet, Disney takes this movie in the way of the Pirates series... make the plot ultra-confusing and hard to follow - and hope the viewer will think you're smart because you thought all that up. I was bored out of my mind watching this... it's just all wrong. I really hope it is the last in the series, so that they don't tarnish it anymore.

Pretty good movie. It is pretty much the exact same as the first one but with more characters. It is not a classic, and it is not art, but it is an enjoyable film that has plenty of action and moves at a pretty quick pace. If you were a fan of the first movie, you will also enjoy this one.

This movie was passable for popcorn thriller/action. It offered mindless entertainment and lousy one-liner. However, even the advice to not take it too seriously would still leave you wondering about plot holes big enough to fly an Airbus 380 through. Nothing quite added up, which is not satisfying. However in a movie about puzzles, its a crime. Oh and maybe me and my ex should get kidnapped together. Two couples got back together in this movie because of it.

Cage tries to be Indiana Jones, searching for a lost city of gold, but this film - while it certainly has action and excitement, just isn't the same. Is it the preposterous history angle that drags the movie down, or that Cage just can't deliver a humorous line like Ford?

I really liked this movie. It is what you would expect. Obviously you need to see the first one National Treasure before watching this sequel. It is a totally unbelievable movie but it is fun. They take you on another historical tour and visit Paris, London, the White House, Mt. Vernon, the Library of Congress and Mt Rushmore. I never really understood Ed Harris character but so what. This film looks real good on Blu-Ray. It is worth a rental.

Nicholas Cage continues his descent into big budget, quirky action hero with this latest "historical" epic. Clearly the sort of movie that begs it's audience to not think too deeply, there is some fun to be had here. The cast does a decent job and it's clear they are enjoying themselves. With hands flailing and a seeming emphasis on random words, Cage is nearly preposterous as he tours Washington's major landmarks, looking to clear the name of an ancestor. In some ways, this is basically the same movie as the first; in fact it sports almost all of the same creative talent (e.g. writers, director, actors, etc.) so it should be no surprise. But the goofy energy and contagious charisma of the cast is moderately entertaining even for the jaded. If you liked the first movie and are willing to overlook some pretty ridiculous details, you'll probably have some fun with this sequel; 3.5 stars.

Blah blah blah yadda yadda yadda....This is the pace of this entire film. Starts out rough and just keeps going downhill from there. I found myself hoping that it would get better like the first 'National Treasure'. Unlike the first film this one fails to grab your interest and keep it, I can't really put a finger on exactly WHY that is but what I CAN tell you is that there is just too much stuff that doesn't make sense or is just to strangely placed. It feels like this film was just to quickly put together or something along that line to make it possible to really enjoy. I would say skip this film its really not worth the time.
