Marriage has gotten stale for John and Jane Smith (Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie), a husband and wife who don't yet know that they share the same undercover line of work: They're both guns for hire. Hiding their occupations has never been a hardship for either of them … until they discover that their next assignment involves them targeting each other! Can they go through with their respective missions, or will love prevail?
Pitt and Jolie do what they're best at. Action/Comedy You might think that two actors who are so similar might nullify eachother, but in this case they create a great synergy that makes this spy vs spy/husband vs wife movie great fun.

Mr. & Mrs. Smith takes director Doug Liman?s ability to add a sense of apprehension and urgency to even the quietest of scenes, Brad Pitt?s Ocean?s 11 style off-beat comedic delivery, and Angelina Jolie?s exquisite beauty and enthusiasm and combines them into a wonderfully entertaining action flick. Plot-wise, Mr. & Mrs. Smith is as ridiculous as they come. Put too much thought into this film and the holes and inconsistencies will bring you tears. And I mean that in a bad way. Yes, the thought of two assassins married and living together without realizing the other?s identity is absurd. Yes, Jolie?s team of hot chicks looked like something out of Charlie?s Angels, and it was dumb. Yes, the entire movie was based in a world far removed from reality. But the movie is fun! And it?s that enjoyment that ultimately matters. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie were probably the perfect choices for the main characters. Brad Pitt is just sensational is everything he does. His ability for comedy is becoming quite apparent, and Mr. & Mrs. Smith is more evidence. His quirky style and delivery make all of his characters memorable, even with names like John Smith. On the down side, it also makes all of his lighter characters very similar. Jolie is, first and foremost, stunningly beautiful. When a woman is this gorgeous in such an exotic and erotic fashion, her looks often outshine the rest of the movie. In Mr. & Mrs. Smith they blended perfectly. I realize that the chances of a deadly assassin being so beautiful are slim, but it was the dark sense of enjoyment Jolie added that made her the perfect casting choice. Looking at these two, guns in hand, you can suspend your disbelief for a brief moment and lose yourself in a fantasy world full of deadly, attractive assassins, and have splendid time doing it.

Not having many expectations, this movie was fine popcorn fare for the evening. The plot had moments you could see coming miles away, but the humor was decent. Vince Vaughn was his usual funny self, but in a quieter supporting role. There are many homages to other films...them in the elevator a la Blues Brothers. I thought the ending was going to be like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, but they took the easy route and lost some points.

MR. AND MRS. SMITH is a PG-13 action-thriller, so the violence, though plentiful, is a bit cartoonish and unrealistic. Don't get this one if your main goal is a thrilling shoot-'em-up. This movie provides plenty of unbelievable action thrills, but it is, at its heart, a romantic comedy. With some action elements, I guess. Pitt and Jolie demonstrate some palpable chemistry in this one. The scenes in which they're trying to kill one another may come back to haunt them someday. Director Doug Liman also directed THE BOURNE IDENTITY, GO and SWINGERS, all of which were movies I enjoyed. I'm happy to add this to the list.[07-01-08]

Interesting, and not really what I was expecting. I found that this movie was silly throughout, and it took me some time to realize that that was their intention. Everything is hard to believe, and none of it is really possible, but the action held my attention. If you go into this just with a clear mind, and don't think about it, you'll enjoy it. To me, it was just a popcorn action movie without much of a plot. The action scenes and fight choreography are just so good, it makes up for the silliness and shortcomings of the film. Pretty good stuff.

This movie starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie was a lot of fun. It was rated PG-13 and both my husband and I thought it deserved an R rating, but it was still a fantastic movie. There was a lot of violence but it was in the context of the film, so it added to the story line. The dialog between Jane and John Smith was hilarious and I found myself laughing out loud quite often throughout the film. Other than their chosen professions, these two fought like most other married couples. They both play hitman (or a hitman and a hitwoman?), but neither knows it is the others profession. They each learn the truth when they are sent to take down the same person. Once they both know, they set out to kill each other. Brad and Angelina were a fantastic choice to star in this movie because they seemed to work very well together and had great on-screen chemistry. It was not an award winning film by any means, but certainly fun to watch, one I might even consider owning down the road.

"Mr. and Mrs. Smith" was a fun film. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have great chemistry together (which is good because the movie would have failed miserably otherwise), and there were plenty of laugh-out-loud moments sprinkled throughout the entire film. It did have a few slow-ish moments, but I was never squirming in my seat or anything. The action scenes were well shot and edited in most cases, and the mini-van car chase scene was especially entertaining. It should go without saying that this is not the movie to go to if you want to leave the theater with something to think about. But if you're looking for a good date movie or just a good-time film, this is a great choice.

An interesting concept, I think this movie mostly gets by on the chemistry and charisma of the two popular leads. The plot itself is a bit silly, and the writing nothing to get excited about but the action elements are appealing. I see no reason to watch this twice.
