After losing yet another nanny position because of her gruff demeanor, Guinevere Pettigrew (Frances McDormand) mistakenly lands an assignment as the assistant of an American starlet (Amy Adams) and finds herself swept up in a dizzying world of glamour and high society. Based on the novel by Winifred Watson, this charming 1940s-era tale also stars Ciarán Hinds, Lee Pace, Shirley Henderson and Mark Strong.
Filmed like it is being staged by a community theater, and about as interesting. You can almost picture the usually excellent actors picking up their checks as soon as each scene ends.

This movie, with Amy Adams as Delysia and Frances McDormand as Miss Pettigrew, reminded me of a cross between the Broadway play Victor/Victoria and a musical. It wasnt either of them, but had that feel about it. There is much frenetic action, a ditzy starlet, a wise lower-class assistant/ housekeeper, and lots of boyfriends all set to the background music of 1940s big band jazz and time period. The costumes and sets were lovely and the actors did a nice job, but maybe it was the story that didnt appeal to me. As with many of Amy Adams' movies, I didnt feel any emotion for the characters. Shes beautiful and sweet, but she played the same personality here as she did in Enchanted. I also did not believe the love interest for Miss Pettigrew. It seemed too unlikely. The whole thing was a bit preposterous.

An enjoyable film. Surprisingly a bit better then I thought it would be. Not something for most men to watch a but to much of a chick flick most times. The who story revolves around Guinevere who is mistaken for an assistant for a day and finds her life completely changed from then on. A bit funny at times a little crazy at others but all in all a good ride. Not one I would HIGHLY recommend but a good one to eventually see. Maybe a top 20 or so.
