L.C. has won the Vegas poker tournament twice and is trying for a third time but, his son (Huck) may be an obstacle. Following in his father’s footsteps, Huck is also a professional poker player and is trying to win the same tournament as his father who left his family when Huck was young to pursue a professional poker playing career. Toss in Billie, a lounge singer, as a new love interest in Huck’s life and things get more interesting. This was one my daughter selected and after hearing her rave about the movie after she watched it, I deided to watch it myself. Fortunately I wasn’t disappointed. Although a movie about poker playing, it didn’t focus on the technical aspect of the game to much. Thankfully it also didn’t focus on Drew’s singing abilities. Instead this was more of a drama with the struggle between father and son being played out at the same tables as the poker games. Acting all around was decent, including cameo’s with real life poker legends. Sets were nicely done as was camera work. Dialogue was clear and pertinent. Although the movie was over 2 hours long, and about poker, the plot moved along nicely with few slow spots. No nudity and very little bad language makes this one that even the younger kids can watch, but I doubt they would have much interest. Both my 13 yr old and 10 yr old however did enjoy the movie. Not a top ten pick but a quite enjoyable movie.

Only watched this one because I'm a big poker fanatic myself, especially Texas Hold 'Em, which is featured prominently in this movie. The big tournament started about 82 minutes in, so that's when it got interesting. The side love story was pretty far fetched, but I give this one a passing grade for the poker play. Unless you're a poker fan or huge Eric Bana fan, you can pass and not miss anything. 6/08

This movie is about a compulsive gambler ruining his life. The story is nothing new and has been done so much better before, including several classics. Don't let the famous names involved fool you. There's a reason this movie has only two stars.

This movie SUCKED! The beginning is slow and seems a little uncertain as a viewer where and why things are going on. I didn't really feel for this movie in anyway other then totally lack-luster and dull. What was Drew & Robert thinking? The plot drolls on and on and on but nothing seems to really captivate you in this film. I could go on with the negativity but I think you get the point. STAY AWAY from this one, unless you want to watch a movie that makes you WANT to stab a pen in your eye for entertainment...just kidding but close lol.

I am a huge hold em fan so I had been looking forward to this movie as soon as I heard about it. Not worth the wait, this movie plods along for two mostly boring hours with forgettable performances by everyone involved. I suggest you watch Rounders instead or even better go play Hold Em yourself.
