Eric Bana (Troy) stars as a gifted young poker player working to beat his personal demons and win the World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. In the process, he connects with a struggling musician (Drew Barrymore) and his obstinate father (Robert Duvall). A bevy of real-life poker aces, including Daniel Negreanu, Doyle Brunson, Marsha Waggoner and Jennifer Harman, co-star in this drama from Academy Award-winning director Curtis Hanson.
Only watched this one because I'm a big poker fanatic myself, especially Texas Hold 'Em, which is featured prominently in this movie. The big tournament started about 82 minutes in, so that's when it got interesting. The side love story was pretty far fetched, but I give this one a passing grade for the poker play. Unless you're a poker fan or huge Eric Bana fan, you can pass and not miss anything. 6/08

This movie is about a compulsive gambler ruining his life. The story is nothing new and has been done so much better before, including several classics. Don't let the famous names involved fool you. There's a reason this movie has only two stars.

This movie SUCKED! The beginning is slow and seems a little uncertain as a viewer where and why things are going on. I didn't really feel for this movie in anyway other then totally lack-luster and dull. What was Drew & Robert thinking? The plot drolls on and on and on but nothing seems to really captivate you in this film. I could go on with the negativity but I think you get the point. STAY AWAY from this one, unless you want to watch a movie that makes you WANT to stab a pen in your eye for entertainment...just kidding but close lol.

I am a huge hold em fan so I had been looking forward to this movie as soon as I heard about it. Not worth the wait, this movie plods along for two mostly boring hours with forgettable performances by everyone involved. I suggest you watch Rounders instead or even better go play Hold Em yourself.
