Smooth and sexy Alex "Hitch" Hitchens (Will Smith) is the master of seduction in this charming romantic comedy. His specialty? Helping clueless clients make a great first impression so they not only get to the second date, but make someone fall for them. When a gossip reporter (Eva Mendes) starts nosing around his business, however, Hitch finds himself out of moves as he forgets all his lessons and has to figure out a whole new strategy to love.
Kevin James was the highlight of this movie. Other than that, there wasn't really anything else that hasn't been done before

They almost got it right. They certainly get an A for effort, but the final product didn't live up to my expectations. The first half of the movie was great. The setup was quick and the jokes were funny. Will Smith and Kevin James worked great together. Several scenes had me laughing out loud. Even the script was pretty decent. The dialogue was more natural than most romantic comedies and the actors' reactions to each other were believable. But then Hitch fell apart. Every story has to have some kind of conflict, and I think that's what ruined Hitch for me. I won't give away the plot (like you can't see it coming...) but the resolution of the conflict fell flat on its face. Suddenly the dialogue became incredibly hokey and completely unrealistic. The characters took 180s and became different people. The story got boring and tedious and I felt like finishing the movie was a chore. The ending just didn't work for me. Hitch wasn't a bad movie by any means. Kevin James was perfectly cast and Will Smith was his usual amusing and suave self. As far as romantic comedies go, this one really stands out. Because Hitch is told from a man's point of view, the film has a unique feel to it. It's almost a romantic comedy for men, if you will. It had so much going for it, but it tripped on its own feet just before the finish line. Hitch was a better-than-average romantic comedy, but just an average film in general. For the most part everything worked, especially the well selected cast. Unfortunately, the end of the movie seemed a little too out of step with reality for me to identify with it. If you like Will Smith or Kevin James, give Hitch a chance. Just don't expect a mold-breaking romantic comedy.

With more laughs than romance, this film features top-rate comedy performances from all its stars. Will Smith plays a likeable Manhattan "Date Doctor". His mission...to help Average Joes win the hearts of the women they love. Kevin James, TV's King of Queens, plays his ultimate challenge. There are lots of laughs as Smith coaches James in the smooth way to win the heart of an heiress. And Will finds he needs a little "date doctoring" when he meets an intelligent, but wary, gossip columnist, played by the sexy Eva Mendes. At PG-13, it plays sweet, not loose. The sneak peak audience I saw it with left the theater with smiles on their faces.

This is cute! Will Smith plays Hitch, whose job is to help clueless men hook up with the woman of their dreams. Then Hitch meets the woman of his dreams - so he has an extra client. I really laughed at this movie. Alright, there were a few cheesy moments, but romance is cheesy, right? This is a fun idea. Will Smith is as always, awesome. You will have to be a believer in true love though to suspend your beliefs during the movie because there are a few odd couples (and ducks)(5/23/08)

I was interested in the "dating doctor" premise of this movie but ultimately Hitch left me less than satisfied. It was good but not great. Will Smith is always superb -- I'd say he's on my can-do-no-wrong actors list -- but the allergic-reaction scene and a few others just struck me as reaching too far (the script's fault not Will's). Sorry but except for the jetski kick, Will's interactions with Eva Mendes were ultimately forgettable, as were most of the scenes with Amber Valletta, who played the dishy celebrity who inexplicably falls for the schlubby Kevin James. The meat of the movie spins (like toasted lamb on a spindle) around Will's dating tutorials with Kevin esp. where the former nixes the latter's jiggy moves and chews him out for completing a practice kiss (never a comfortable sight for any straight male). In a word, Hitch was unbelievable. Its genuine laughs were balanced by as many or more cheesy or queasy moments. Enjoy it but you probably won't be back for a second viewing unless you're a big Crocodile Dundee fan. 3 stars.

Just watched this sorry excuse for a movie. I knew that Will Smith movies could be iffy and never liked Kevin James on TV, but we saw a preview of "Hitch" and it looked funny and we decided to rent this one. What a huge mistake! In fact, after 40 minutes, we had to stop. This was one of the worst movies we have seen in a long time. Don't waste your time or your money: The premise was dumb, the acting was dumb and nothing was funny.

This was a cute lighthearted comedy starring Will Smith and Eva Mendes. I typically can't stand Eva Mendes, something about her bugs me, but she was alright in this role. Overconfident man with a secret job meets overconfident woman and when overconfident woman finds out his job she is hurt and upset and we spend some time trying to see this resolved and then they go on to live happily ever after. Despite the fact that the underlying story has been done over and over again in many romantic comedies (Failure to Launch, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days) the story was different enough to engage your interest. Kevin James (from King of Queens) was a pleasure to watch and had me laughing at many scenes in the movie. Will Smith has to coach him on how to make a rich beautiful woman fall in love with him, and hilarity that follows is great to watch.

One of the few chick flicks I find more endearing than sappy. Will Smith and Eva Mendes are both good here and have a chemistry that lends itself well to both comedy and romance. Kevin James also provides more than a few chuckles. This is a good light-hearted flick that should be equally enjoyed by both men and women.

I hated this movie mostly to due to Eva Mendes' role as a skeptical, man-hating Bi-o-tch! No self-respecting man would ever want to date her, let alone run after and beg her to give him chance to be tortured some more by her. The entire concept of this warped romance was a complete insult to me and I would think anyone who has a healthy grip on their self esteem! The secondary storyline was just as crazy, but it was executed with a lighter touch and sincerity. There were some funny moments with Kevin James and Will Smith - even though they blew most of them on the trailer/previews. Only watch this movie if you are a serious, die hard Will Smith fan - and then check your smarts at the door!
