Charlie Bartlett
This comedy follows the exploits of Charlie Bartlett (Anton Yelchin), a miserable high school student who finds a novel way to fit in with his classmates: by pretending to be the school psychiatrist, dispensing advice and the occasional prescription medicine. The Nines
Three stories intertwine and creatively converge in John August's film that stars Ryan Reynolds, Melissa McCarthy and Hope Davis in multiple roles. This offbeat trilogy begins with "The Prisoner," about a popular TV actor under house arrest; "Reality Television" follows a TV producer's struggle to launch a new series starring his close friend; and "Knowing" features a video game designer seeking help for his family stranded by car trouble.

Hot Rod
What better way to impress step-dad than to jump Snake River Canyon on a moped? That's the premise of this over-the-top action comedy from a pair of "Saturday Night Live" veterans. Akiva Schaffer directs, and Andy Samberg (a co-writer) stars as the accident-prone daredevil determined to carry out the ridiculous feat in this silly send-up of Evel Knievel's famously unsuccessful jump. Sissy Spacek and Ian McShane ("Deadwood") co-star.

Severance

Flags of Our Fathers
From director Clint Eastwood comes this riveting World War II drama that recounts the story of six soldiers instantly immortalized when they were photographed raising the American flag atop Iwo Jima's Mount Suribachi. Based on the book of the same name, the film reconstructs the events that preceded and followed the snapshot that came to symbolize the U.S. troops' triumph and America's indestructible spirit. Ryan Phillippe and Barry Pepper star.

I Trust You to Kill Me
Rocco DeLuca and the Burden is a band struggling to make it in a highly competitive industry. On a tour through Ireland, England and Germany, the group and their high-profile manager --film and television actor Kiefer Sutherland -- relentlessly push forward to promote the act and Sutherland's new music label. Filmmaker Manu Boyer's musical documentary showcases what happens when unknown musicians and a famed celebrity share life on the road.

Kinsey
Liam Neeson provides a fascinating portrait of theorist and zoologist Dr. Alfred Kinsey, whose name has been associated with human sexuality ever since he interviewed thousands of people about their sex lives and released his findings in a groundbreaking 1948 book, Sexual Behavior in the Human Male. The book caused ripples in the scientific community and paved the way for further inquiry into the subject. Laura Linney and Peter Sarsgaard co-star.

The Butcher Boy
Neil Jordan adapts Patrick McCabe's novel about Francie Brady (Eamonn Owens), an overimaginative boy whose dire home life turns his harmless fantasies into murderous delusions. When his abusive father (Stephen Rea) dies, and his suicidal mother is institutionalized, Francie acts out in homicidal fashion. Disturbing and surreal, Jordan's film is notable for, among other things, casting controversial singer Sinéad O'Connor as the Virgin Mary.

The Yes Men
This humorous documentary monitors the exploits of a group of jokester liberals who make names for themselves as they mimic members of the World Trade Organization at various venues across the globe. The absurd facade gets started when two members of The Yes Men create a web site that looks quite similar to the WTO site, resulting in the group being invited to high-level meetings and being mistaken for WTO officials.

The Dead Zone
The missiles are flyin' … hallelujah! Based on a best-seller by Stephen King and directed by horror veteran David Cronenberg, The Dead Zone is a wonderful addition to the pantheon of intelligent horror films. Johnny Smith (Christopher Walken) awakens from a 5-year coma blessed with second sight -- and part of the future terror he can see involves Martin Sheen, a sleazebag on the fast track to the presidency of the United States.

Drugstore Cowboy

When Nadine goes toes up from an overdose, Bob swears off drugs and tries to rebuild his life -- minus his wife, who's determined to stay hooked.

Hollywoodland
When George Reeves (Ben Affleck), the actor who famously played the Man of Steel in TV's "Adventures of Superman," turns up dead, a dogged private eye (Adrien Brody) investigates and unearths a string of strange secrets. Diane Lane and Bob Hoskins also star in this gritty noir-style drama based on the true story of one of Hollywood's most infamous mysteries, a film that marks television director Allen Coulter's feature film debut.

Capturing the Friedmans
A family in crisis is "captured" through real home video. The Friedmans, an average upper-middle-class Jewish family in Great Neck, NY, found their world turned upside down when the father and son were charged with child molestation in 1987. The media inundated the airwaves with coverage of the alleged crime, but some of the best footage was shot by the family themselves -- seen publicly for the first time in this documentary.

Step Into Liquid
This documentary directed by Dana Brown smashes any preconceptions that the surfing community mostly comprises buff blondes and hardbodies. Zigzagging from the waters off Ireland to Da Nang in Vietnam and Oahu's ripping North Shore, Step Into Liquid profiles the diverse and fascinating characters who have devoted their lives to catching the perfect wave.

Straw Dogs
Astrophysicist David Sumner (Dustin Hoffman) and wife, Amy (Susan George), move to England to get away from the violence in America. A "seasoned" auto repossessor (Harry Dean Stanton) shows Otto the ropes, and when a big reward is offered for an elusive 1964 Malibu, Otto dodges G-men, cops, religious kooks -- you name it -- in a frenzied quest for the car. Does his fate lie in its trunk?

The Magnificent Seven
Fed up with being brutalized and impoverished because of outlaw raids led by a merciless brigand (Eli Wallach), the besieged citizens of a small Mexican town hire seven American gunslingers to stave off the marauders once and for all. Badass Yul Brynner heads the band of mercenaries, which includes Hollywood luminaries Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, James Coburn and Robert Vaughn. Elmer Bernstein penned the film's unforgettable score.

Barton Fink
Barton Fink (John Turturro), an idealistic fellow with an Eraserhead-like hairdo, believes that writing should reveal the hopes, dreams and tragedies of the common man. Then Hollywood taps him to write a movie, and Fink comes down with a severe case of writer's block, unable to combine his deep-seated ethics with Tinsel Town's desire to make a buck. When the disillusioned Fink finds himself part of a murder investigation, all hell breaks loose.

Stalag 17
For the Allied prisoners of Stalag 17, every escape attempt ends the same way -- in disaster. The cynical Sgt. Sefton (William Holden, in his Oscar-winning role) thinks they're all fools for trying … but soon his hectoring starts to raise suspicions that there's a German spy in the prison camp -- and that spy is him! Director Billy Wilder effortlessly mixes broad comedy and high-tension drama in this World War II classic.

Cape Fear
Public defender Sam Bowden (Nick Nolte) served as the attorney for brutal rapist Max Cady (Robert De Niro) at his arraignment. Shocked by the violence of Cady's crime, Sam duplicitously withheld information regarding the sexually promiscuous activities of Cady's rape victim -- information that might have won Max's acquittal. After serving a hellish 14-year sentence in a barbaric state penitentiary, Cady's out for revenge. …

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly
While the Civil War rages, three men -- a quiet loner (Clint Eastwood), a ruthless hit man (Lee Van Cleef) and a Mexican bandit (Eli Wallach) -- comb the American Southwest in search of a strongbox containing $200,000 in stolen gold. In his third classic spaghetti Western with Eastwood, director Sergio Leone continues to shake up the genre with stylish photography, a hefty dose of cynicism and Ennio Morricone's instantly recognizable score.

Marathon Man
After his CIA agent brother (Roy Scheider) is killed, graduate student Babe Levy (Dustin Hoffman) finds himself trapped in a deadly game with a Nazi fugitive (Laurence Oliver), a sadistic man who uses dental instruments as tools of torture. As Levy turns from pacifist to street-smart cynic, director John Schlesinger's thriller barrels toward its fever-pitched conclusion. The Oscar-nominated film is based on William Goldman's best-selling novel.

The Station Agent
When his only friend dies, a young dwarf named Finbar McBride (Peter Dinklage) relocates to an abandoned train station in rural New Jersey, intent on living the life of a hermit. Cool Hand Luke
What we have here is a failure to communicate! Lucas Jackson (Paul Newman) is a man who likes to do things his own way. That leads to a world of hurt when he winds up in a hellish Southern prison camp -- and on the wrong side of a sadistic warden (Strother Martin). George Kennedy won an Oscar as a fellow prisoner who tries to break Luke and then comes to revere him. The stellar cast includes Dennis Hopper, Harry Dean Stanton and Joe Don Baker.

The Wendell Baker Story
Luke Wilson is both star and co-director of this feel-good flick about Texas ex-con Wendell Baker, who vows to redeem himself by helping a group of troubled retirees fight corruption at the Shady Grove Retirement Hotel. Sultry Eva Mendes co-stars as Baker's girlfriend who may or may not take him back, Luke's brother Owen Wilson plays the evil head nurse, and seasoned acting veteran Harry Dean Stanton shines as salty hotel resident Skip.

Bachelor Party
Two-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks would probably like to forget it, but he got his big break in this raunchy teen comedy. Hanks plays bus driver Rick Gasko, engaged to super-rich Debbie Thompson (Tawny Kitaen). To keep an eye the groom, Debbie and her pals pose as hookers and go to his bachelor party. While the film veers into Animal House territory at times, the laughs are solid. Look for a young (and nearly nude) Meryl Streep in a small role.

Auto Focus
An absorbing glimpse into the colorful life and mysterious death of actor Bob Crane, best known as the star of the 1960s hit TV comedy "Hogan's Heroes." Capitalizing on his fame, Crane dove into the freewheeling spirit of the times with relish, having affairs with numerous women. He eventually teamed with video technician John Carpenter to document his exploits -- an association that may have led to his 1978 murder in an Arizona motel room.

Mayor of the Sunset Strip
Rodney Bingenheimer has been a fixture in the Los Angeles music scene for more than two decades, evolving from rock fan to journalist, promoter, club owner and, finally, radio DJ on KROQ. Undaunted, they all try to make a life together -- and even have a baby -- in 1980s New York.

Following
This odd, claustrophobic film about a seedy young Brit (Jeremy Theobald) who's obsessed with following people -- albeit harmlessly at first -- is a great neo-noir movie that gets even better as the premise unspools. After meeting a like-minded bloke (Alex Haw), the twosome graduate to breaking and entering but meet their match in a tough blonde dame (Lucy Russell).

Scotland, PA
Scotland, PA takes Shakespeare's "Macbeth" someplace it's never been: 1970s white-trash America. James LeGros and Maura Tierney are Joe and Pat McBeth, a couple stuck in dead-end fast-food jobs. McDuff (Christopher Walken) begins an investigation that leads him straight to the heart of a dysfunctional fast-food fantasy.

Pauly Shore is Dead
Stand-up comedian Pauly Shore rose to fame in the 1990s with his hit MTV television show "Totally Pauly" and continued his success on the big screen with roles in "Encino Man" and "Son in Law." The Aristocrats
The premise is simple enough: More than 100 funny people (including big stars and lesser-known talents) each tell the same raunchy vaudeville joke -- with about 100 different results.
